I love Sayles and this captures my homestate in ways no other film has. It made my wife understand me a bit more.

This low-key character study from writer-director John Sayles apparently slipped under everybody's radar in 2002, but it's well worth catching. A small Florida community must deal with the prospect of the ensuing developers who are bringing about permanent change to their way of life--for better or worse. Film explores multiple characters in the town and how it affects them. Filmed partly in Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville, Florida.

Sayles' writing is so good, and so convincing, he makes the experience more like reading a complex and well-researched novel than watching a movie.

The dialogue is sharp and insightful, the cast is superb, the performances are rock-solid, the story is provocative and multilayered.

Anoterh John Sayles masterpiece. This was the 2nd time I watched this movie and enjoyed this again. It is a great character study of a local community facing over development by greedy developers...great ensemble cast.
