i can not understand why set such big background into this movie. Full of simple and nonsense scene.

A fascinating and frustrating film in turns, created out of scorching passions and built around a fascinating performance but rambling and choppy in the telling. It can overwhelm you and puzzle and repel you, sometimes within moments.

The film will have its critics and I can see why because at time the film is rather overplotted. But at the heart of this film is one of the most poignant studies into the ambivalance of human nature headed by the beautiful and gifted Hao Lei who gives one of the most memorable performances in years of a young charismatic but tempestuous heroine who struggles as much with the harsh realities around her as she does with the sheer paraodoxical nature of her inner self.

Had the potential to be a great film, but wasn't. The personal narratives and the political/social events were completely disjointed. Focus was misplaced.

You spend half your time wondering what the hell is going on - but it all joins up into something pretty emotional and amazing. A Chinese Unbearable Lightness of Being. Politics, yearning and sex lots and lots of sex.
