igot carried away by the excellent ratins by ananda vikadan....had lotsa expectations....all in vain tho....movie is filled with betrayals....which doesn get nethin more than a star frm me....

After "Kaathal", "Veyyil" and "Paruthiveeran", the latest in the string of Tamil neo "neo-realism" movies. The setting is rural, actors are mostly untrained and unseen, the look is raw and the techniques are quite contemporary. The story is more usual than the usual and the performances nothing special. Still, the movie has a genuine feel and rawness that only a talented film-maker can achieve. The attention to details, for an Indian commercial movie, is really laudable. It is true to life, down to earth and watchable. No wonder theatres are overflowing and the film is turning out to be a blockbuster in the midst of superstar mania. Gladdening to see craftsmanship and raw talent reminiscent of the 1980s back in Tamil Cinema.

Movie boasts of a well established classic 80s theme of Tamilnadu showing the hippy hairstyle trend among men, tight full-sleeved checked shirts with bell bottom trousers, etc that prevailed in the 80s. Story is about a few casual youths careless about job, life, etc. who spend the whole day at a usual joint at the street corner and how they get lured into serious crimes. Movie has a great climax and effortlessly manages to grip the audience till the end. Personally, I feel, Subramaniapuram is among the best tamil movies. However, a tamilian will thoroughly understand and enjoy the language used by the actors, the choice of words, expressions, etc. and other nuances which belong only to a particular community. People of other cultures may also enjoy the movie but not as much as a tamilian would, because, there are certain things in a movie which cannot be translated in subtitles and this movie has a lot of them.

If you liked Veyyil, i'm sure you'll like this movie as well. The betrayals are the BEST part of the movie- otherwise it would have been a flop with a pseudo happy ending. It's realistic and makes you think about your own life. Can you say that about any SRK movie?
