This is the second of an uncompleted "Strange Trilogy," the first of which was the also entertaining and underrated "Strange Behavior". A complete throwback to films sci-fi film of the 1950s like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", this film tells the story of an isolated town who newcomers Paul Le Mat and Nancy Allen find their behavior rather peculiar. From there, the film takes some fun and outrageous turns. Directed by Michael Laughlin and written by Bill Condon, who would later go onto write and direct much classier of films like "Kinsey" and "Gods and Monsters". Lousice Fletcher, Wallace Shawn and June Lockhart also appear.

How telling that the critics loved it and the audience didn't. It was a huge box office bomb, and justly so. This had no funny parts to it at all. It was played straight and so was too dated for an 80s film. If it was trying to mock films from the 50s, it only succeeded in being a 50s film and a boring one with bad acting. It certainly didn't measure up to The Day The Earth Stood Still, which was playing on the TV in one scene. Just a bad movie.

I see why this film developed cult statis. A classic 1983 science fiction film that has class and great actors. A very entertaining film. I remember seeing this film on HBO back in 1983, I still love this film.

Tries to walk the thin line between camp and horror but doesn't pull it off. Worse than that is the slow developing plot which keeps holding back the good scifi/alien stuff.
