Was curious about this movie because it got such bad critic reviews but my friends liked it. Just saw it, and it's a good one. Many criticized it for focusing on the white young midwestern guy, Danny. But it put things in perspective. Most of us didn't live on the street in Greenwich Village. We were living in families across the country and dealing with the stigma of being gay. Anyway, I think this will build especially in the dvd market.

This movie is deliberately ignoring history in favor of showing a white cis man as the face of gay representation. Where are Sylvia Rivera, Miss Major, Marsha P. Johnson? Oh right, they're being swept under the rug like they never mattered in the first place. Fuck this movie.

Solid coming of age story. The somewhat heavy handed dialogue is saved by a number of surprisingly good performances, most notably Jonny Beauchamp as Ray. While the movie could've been handled better as a docudrama, it's entertaining in its own right.

The proceedings can seem less like a fresh retelling of a seminal story and more like, despite stabs at grit and terror, a theatricalized, dewy-eyed version of days past.

Stonewall has many stories to tell; this is one after-school-special version that contains some very good acting, especially Jonny Beauchamp as Ray/Ramona. I wish I had this film as a kid. Sure, there is more to mine from this historical event. But too many naysayers, many who never saw the film, killed it because it wasn't the story they wanted. Meanwhile, gay films are in short supply. And the negative overreactions to this flick will make studios think hard before they tackle this subject or any marginalized queer topic. (I know I wouldn't; you can't win.) How many heterosexual historical films are not what they could be? In short, I liked this film. It was jumbled, a bit chaotic, and undeveloped, but many of the performers gave it a beating heart. And the violence and social injustice depicted, even it's small scale rouses and moves. Glad I saw it.
