Sorrowful Jones (1949)

A young girl is left with the notoriously cheap Sorrowful Jones as a marker for a bet. When her father doesn't return, he learns that taking care of a child interferes with his free-wheeling lifestyle. Sorrowful must also evade crooked gangsters and indulge in a bit of horse-thieving.

Hope's not "Sorrowful" but he helps make this the most entertaining version of Runyon's "Little Miss Marker." Precious Saunders a bit much. Demarest is a hoot as Regret as is Tom Pedi as Cabot's henchman.

It's a little too cute, but Bob Hope is always good, and Lucille Ball is a good match for him. Pleasant score, well produced. Entertaining but not very memorable.

One of the many Hope - Ball teamings is a bit of a sad outing but should be seen by any fan of either respective entertainer. Remake of Little Miss Marker and remade years later as Hopscotch (1980).

One of my favorite Bob Hope movies - many versions of this out there by many names - but I've always liked this best.
