He exposes the roots and history of Rap and then, through meeting many of its most famous protagonists, studies the living mechanism of the music to reveal 'The Art Of Rap'. This extraordinary film features unique performances from the entire cast, without resorting to archive material, to build a fresh and surprising take on the phenomenon that is Rap.

A documentary that focuses on rap as an artform and how some of the experts in that field cultivate their rhymes. So I'm pleased that P-Diddy doesn't feature at all, instead we get snippets of interviews and freestyle flows from the likes of Chuck D, KRS-One, Ras Kass, Redman amongst many others. It is missing some noticeable heavyweights such as Busta Rhymes and Method Man but it doesn't diminish the overall film at all. I was really impressed at how well Eminem came across too. (and if you don't think he's worthy of being in the film, then you don't understand the slant the documentary has taken)...

As someone whose first cassette tape was Grandmaster Flash, I was pumped to see "The Art of Rap." There were some solid, genuine, interviews and freestyles, however the movie probably should have ended earlier than it did. The interviews did not get any more revealing and thus became repetitive after a while. "Scratch" by Doug Pray is still the best documentary concerning hip hop.

Great documentary. Very insightful look into the world of rap and hip hop! A must see/must own for any real rap/hip hop fan!

A must for any rap/hip-hop fan, this is a great documentary by Ice-T which consists of an hour and a half of interviews with various faces in rap music talking about their inspirations and favourite verses by other rappers. Excellent.
