A quiet suburb in Southern California is terrorized by a mysterious murderous monster living in a cave. Exactly the sort of low-budget picture one would expect to be the calling card of a young kid weaned on classic movies and tattered issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland.

Cheap and cheesy, this is the equivalent of a kid set loose with a camcorder today. But in this case, the kid is John Landis in the days before he was crap. Some of the scenes are absolute gold.

John Landis wrote, directed and starred in his first film, a monster movie parody about a monkey man who falls in love with a girl who was blind but just had an operation to give her sight. It is goofy, it is madness, and it is fun. Landis when on to direct many well-known features, but his first is a rarely seen goof on corny monster movies with some solid gags throughout. I enjoyed this, found it funny, and thought Rick Baker's early work was surprisingly good considering how early in his career this really is and how small the budget must've been.

This was the 1st dvd I ever bought and I didn't even have a dvd player. I knew nothing about it and I was not one bit disappointed when I finally got to watch it. Classic. One of my favorites of all time. I can get tired of watching Pee Wee's big adventure. but never this one. One of my favorite scenes is when Joe Putzman goes to shake the guys hand.
