Internationally known graffiti artist, Banksy, left his mark on San Francisco in April 2010. Little did he know that this act of vandalism would spark a chain of events that includes one of his rats being removed from a wall, Museums ignorantly turning down a free Banksy street work, and a NY gallerist who has made it his business model to remove Banksy street works from all over the globe doing whatever it takes to get the rat in his possession.

I had the pleasure of watching Saving Banksy at last year's Nashville Film Festival and am very excited for its general release. The film is comprised of amazing interviews with some of the medium's luminaries, all of whom shine a thoughtful and frequently entertaining light on the issue of commercialization of art intended to be public. I have no doubt the film will have an Exit Through the Gift Shop like affect on the public and their relationship to graffiti and street art.

I feel like Day could have made three documentaries out of his footage: one about Greif’s journey, one about street artists, and one about the art world’s old and new guard.
