Sharp, funny, and acerbic...Movies that are as truthful and observant as this one are rare.

Really great movie. Some parts were funny, like when their dad starting writing messages on the bathroom wall with shit. This movie was sad but it was really interesting. Laura Linney is such a great actress. She's very interesting in this movie. She looks better with brown hair rather than blonde.

Has kind of a bleak interpretation of life, but a very realistic one, and I always appreciate realism no matter the circumstance. Philip Seymour Hoffman in particular is good in this. I can't help but notice how far apart Hoffman is from the rank and file of hollywood's narcissistic elite. He has his own truly subtle style that I have a feeling many cannot appreciate, but which is, I think, much more rewarding to see than the canned performances one usually sees from Tom Cruise and his ilk.

Jenkins makes a huge leap forward in her sophomore film, a serio comedy that effortlessly blends humor and pathos in a tale of a dysfunctional family in which the two misfit siblings are splendidly played by Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

What had the potentially to be an across-the-board downer turned out to have a lot of heart and featured an incredible cast that were more than capable of fleshing out the characters so that they were entirely believable, instead of the standard issue dark comedy characters that are only pathetic for a the sake of a few hollow laughs.
