Rocco (2016)

Rocco Siffredi is to pornography what Mike Tyson is to boxing or Mick Jagger is to rock'n'roll: a living legend. His mother wanted him to be a priest; with her blessing he became a hardcore performer, devoting his life to one God only: Desire. Rocco Siffredi reveals all, even if it sometimes means busting his own myth: his true story, beginnings, career, wife and children… and the ultimate revelation that will change his life forever.

A deeply moving and intimate portrait of a male porn star, beautifully shot and unabashed by its material.

Rocco: This documentary showcases what was planned to be the final adult film starring renowned Italian porn actor Rocco Siffredi, who, known for his affinity for rough sex, announced his retirement from the industry at the age of 52. The film has the expected titilating full-frontal nude scenes of Rocco and his co-stars as well as heartfelt confessionals about his fears of aging and interesting interviews with his wife, sons and cousin/cameraman. But despite being beautifully filmed and containing some moments of unflinching honesty, more often it is surprisingly dull and feels more like a cheesy knockoff than a true documentary. C-

So what was the point of this so called documentary exactly? To show us fellow watchers that all the actors in the porn industry are extremely happy and embracing themselves? Oh and stupid?

Overly uncritical bio of extreme porn's undisputed king. Notable for a first half full of hints with a lousy half-arsed payoff.

Yet another attempt from the film industry to normalize violent, abusive, misogynistic pornography. Rocco's films show very young girls from very poor countries getting hit, spit on, sodomized until they bleed, choked, gagged until they vomit, and finally, climaxed upon by numerous men. The female performers endure; they do not enjoy. It shows how desensitized we are to the abuse of young females that seeing girls treated this way hardly phases us. This is why women are frightened of men, and will continue to be so.
