Well told Civil War yarn with beautiful visuals, great acting and touching plot.

Great, Great movie. It shows the border war between Missouri and Kansas during the Civil War at its most brutal and dirtiest. Ang Lee did a wonderful job of setting and casting this movie. Tobey Maguire is great as "Dutchy Rodell" and the most inspired role of "Holt" by Jeffrey Wright. See several great supporting roles from Skeet Ulrich, Jewel, Simon Baker, Jim Cawiezel, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Tom Wilkinson and Jonathan Brandes. Realistic look at the horrible effects of war on the populace and the deeply entrenched hatred of the people on both sides of this conflict. The only negative I had is during the raid on Lawrence there were a lot of brass framed revolvers, which would have been somewhat scarce. But history nerds like me would be the only ones who notice this.

I'm completely biased when reviewing this because I LOVE Jewel and to see her act is so sweet! She is quite good at acting I think...she should try it more often! But the rest of the cast was just great...I really liked this movie and would definitely suggest it as a good "era" piece of work. Check it out if you ever get the chance or are a history buff!

A haunting film that takes its time in telling us a wonderful story. These characters are people who grow and change throughout the film. Such a believable job every step of the way in terms of geographical, historical and sociological settings. The film is fearless in telling its story with an astounding level of realism the entire way. A young cast for the most part with a nice Tom Wilkinson performance thrown in for good measure. Additionally, Jeffrey Wright is one of our finest actors and his work here is mesmerizing. Jewel acquits her self well in a gutsy casting decision by the filmmakers.

A typically stylish Ang Lee masterpeice. Moving and thought-provoking tale of Confederate soilders' lives and violence during the American Civil War. Amazing performance by Jeffrey Wright.
