A fantastic historical drama that I would rank on the same upper echelon of Civil War drama's as "Glory."

explore on American revolution war through different angles...emphasis on people's inmost feelings and humanity among special satuation...That's Ang lee's movies, that's what i appreciate!

This is a minor masterpiece and one of the best examples of the 'Southern' (or proto-Western) sub genre. The performance are uniformly strong and Ang Lee trusts the actors to convey largely unspoken motivations. The action is intended to be upsetting, which limited the audience. It is well worth watching as a companion to thematically related films, like OUTLAW JOSEY WALES and DJANGO UNCHAINED.

Great movie for history buffs. Shows a believable side to the border states that were pro-Confederate yet not necessarily pro-slavery. Mostly immigrants terrified of losing the few jobs they could get. Gotta love love Tobey Maguire. :)
