I had no idea there was a movie based on this absurd play, but low and behold--here it is. As much as I like Gene Wilder, he kind of sleepwalks through the film. In fact--he plays his part like he's a sedated Pee Wee Herman. In contrast, everyone around him is great. Particularly stunning is a young Karen Black. She always does psycho well and she's no exception in this film. Zero Mostel doesn't lag far behind either. If you're familiar with the play--you'll get a kick out of the film. If you're not familiar with the play--you're in for a wild ride!

A very 70s theatre feel to this picture, it's somewhat experimental and thought provoking, but kinda weird at the same time. It has a lot of funny moments too, I liked it, it's different.

Perhaps a difficult play to convert to a film. Has a few amusing ploys, but does take much of the pathos away from the original. Possibly any film version would find it a difficult task to maintain audience interest, while still conserving the more dialogue-driven nature of the play.

Very odd - obviously trying to be absurd/surreal, but it's not funny, nor does it go into Stanley (Wilder) having an existential crisis, except for a tiny bit at the end. Mostel is wasted and Black only has a few min screen-time. It's too obviously a play - there's only 3 scenes and you don't even see a rhino - surely the budget could've covered one! Letdown.
