Here's my review: Nothing short of fucking amazing! People forget there is a war going on in Afghanistan and that our boys are still dying there. This is one of the best documentaries I have seen. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Seriously. Its a Netflix play now what are you waiting for. Thats an order!

It's tough to put my feelings for Restrepo into coherent thoughts. As a filmgoer, my mind has been trained to expect certain things from a war movie, and Restrepo gives me all of them. But this isn't fiction, it's real. The documentary is like a punch in the gut at times. Other moments are an amusing portrait of men who have chosen a soldier's life. We see them bond, suffer boredom together, live together, die together and grieve together in one of the deadliest place in the world. I felt like I was there for all of it and suffered the deployment with them. I had to keep telling myself this was really happening, which proves what an exceptional documentary this is. I give it a Good rating only because we don't have a higher ranking.

Why even good intentioned soldiers are doomed to fail as they try to conquer unfamiliar lands. The platoon controls only its immediate vicinity. Every time they deal with locals they only make things worse. The kill there animals, kill their children and destroy their houses. And then they leave. One day we will see a movie made from the perspective of the other side. No matter what one thinks of the motivation of those fighting the Americans, it is hard to argue that their valor and fighting spirit are more than a match.

Some will walk away saying this is exactly why we need to leave, others might say this is exactly why we need to stay. Hence, the fog of war, which is perfectly portrayed in this brief, but sobering account of modern warfare in Afghanistan. Courage, conviction, and integrity, by both the soldiers and the filmmakers, makes this a most unique and haunting war documentation.
