Rage is a pretty good film. It is about an accidental nerve gas leak by the military kills not only a rancher's livestock, but also his son. George C. Scott and Martin Sheen give decent performances. The script is a little slow in places. George C. Scott also did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and mystery.

Definitely of it's time, the homespun harmonica track that re-enforces simple all American father-son bonding at the beginning of the film really grates. Once this is overcome Scott's lack of subtlety quickly becomes apparent, characters are very black and white, either good, bad or just plain simple. Richard Basehart is more wooden than ever, I suspected he was stuck on a trolly and wheeled around with a constant look of pain on his face. As a simple tale of a good honest man versus the evil of authoritative systems it works but don't expect any depth.

The problem is that Scott hasn't found a way to imbed his argument in the movie's plot.

The slow pace builds to a tremendous climax and one of the all-time great George C. Scott freak outs.
