Robert Altman + Paul Newman + Bibi Andersson + Sci-Fi = failed hopes and a mess of a movie. I still don't know what the hell the "game" in this movie is supposed to be about?!

Weird and boring. How could you possibly go wrong with Altman and Newman? Like this... And take that stupid frost-around-the-edges filter off the camera already!

Quintet (1979) -- [2.5] -- Glaciers move faster than Robert Altman's bleak post-apocalyptic drama. The ice-age backdrop is the only interesting thing about "Quintet," but it's completely irrelevent to the storyline. Paul Newman plays one of the last survivors of the human race, all of whom hole up and play board games, waiting to die. One group of players ups the ante by wagering people's lives. Something of a mystery and a watered-down thriller ensues, but I was way too bored to give an icy shit.

Quintet is a boring film. It is about a group of people trying to survive an ice age. Paul Newman and Fernando Rey give good performances with what was given. The script is horrible and not well written. Robert Altman tried to make to movie work but failed. I would not recommend this motion picture.
