Interesting storyline.... "johnny To's ending"....coincident happen again between characters... the slow motion gun shot scene is very impressive....

Can feel somewhat insincere in places, as though it had been knocked off in haste, across consecutive nights within the same two-block radius, by a director whose mind was entirely on the job in hand. See it for its perfectly framed and choreographed opening 15 minutes, though; the rest is murkier, albeit with some of the same feel for off-kilter, through-the-wee-hours lawlessness as "After Hours" or "The Warriors".

Hong Kong by night. Surrealiste, comme l'etait par exemple After Hours de Scorsese, auquel PTU fait parfois songer : des rencontres improbables, un univers fait d'ombres, une ambiance indescriptible (ici magnifiee par une photo exemplaire). La virtuosite technique de Johnnie To n'a d'egal que le talent des comediens et la capacite du scenario de tenir en haleine. Avec evidemment ce final incongru, pas loin du deus ex machina, qui rejoint ce qui semble etre l'un des themes de predilection du cineaste : on ne peut comprendre les hasards de la vie et sa propre destinee. Film bien plus personnel qu'il n'y parait.
