Primal (2010)

Anja and five friends join anthroplogy student, Dace, on a journey to study a remote, ancient rock painting. Their excitement vanishes when Mel becomes delirious after skinny-dipping in the waterhole. Feverish, bleeding, confused, she physically and mentally regresses to a vicious predatory state. Mel has gone primal. Mel's lover and friends realise they are the prey as she savagely hunts them down. Before they can escape another one of them starts to regress, posing a hideous choice; kill their friends or be killed by them. Their only hope of survival is through a cave, where Anja learns too late the meaning of the ancient rock art they came to study.

In the depths of the Australian Outback a group goes searching for ancient cave paintings only to find much more than they bargained for ... Look for some suspenseful moments and a heap o'gore in this not original but still effective horror outing.

Not bad special effects for a low budget film and it keeps up a steady pace of excitement. It's an entertaining 90 minutes despite the last quarter. The ending...well... is full of cheesy, over the top, blatant, symbolism....

Really paint-by-numbers formulaic piece. Not the worst I've seen, but not even close to the better ones. Characters are stupid and illogical and the ending goes beyond stupidity.

Surprisingly fun take on zombies and aliens. Budget problems led to some lackluster effects, but it's still a great ride in a beautiful setting.
