Prescription Thugs (2016)

Americans consume 75% of the world's prescription drugs. After losing his own brother to the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse, documentarian Chris Bell sets out to demystify this insidious addiction. Bell's examination into the motives of big pharma and doctors in this ever-growing market leads him to meet with experts on the nature of addiction, survivors with first-hand accounts of their struggle, and whistleblowers who testify to the dollar-driven aims of pharmaceutical corporations. Ultimately his investigation will point back to where it all began: his own front door.

Despite [Bell's] casual aura, the filmmaker is eloquent and thoughtful. He argues that Big Pharma merely services consumer demand for quick fixes with "magic" pills, bringing his cautionary tale full circle.

Loved it. It's an extremely eye opening look at how crooked big pharma is, and how they have used the gov't to corner the market.

Chris Bell's film may be a little cluttered and unwieldy but its personal slant has an intensity that is likely to make audiences think about the implications of twisting off a safety cap.

Even before a “do as I say, not as I do” twist costs it all credibility, Prescription Thugs is a not very good documentary about a very important subject.

This is a one sided, low budget Michael Moore wannabe flick. His other documentary, Bigger, Stronger, Faster was very similar. If you are going to be a "real" Documentary Film maker, you have to visit both sides of the issue. There is so much more depth to the issue of addiction and more importantly, many Pharmaceuticals are life saving and beneficial. You want to be taken seriously, then you need to take a much deeper dive but I assume he doesn't have the capital or resources to make a legit and thorough documentary on this very important issue. Maybe next time.
