Pontypool (2009)

When disc jockey Grant Mazzy reports to his basement radio station in the Canadian town of Pontypool, he thinks it's just another day at work. But when he hears reports of a virus that turns people into zombies, Mazzy barricades himself in the radio booth and tries to figure out a way to warn his listeners about the virus and its unlikely mode of transmission.

ummm..can you say wow? i mean, holy shit. an existential zombie(??) movie!? yes please! that and it had tinges of a grant morrison story (god bug) but that's just the comic nerd in me. anyhoo, you must see this movie, blew my mind.

Hemmed in by theatrically bound staging, "Pontypool" is an overly inflated zombie flick that makes overtures to a weighty theme of social consciousness that the screenwriters are ill-prepared to fulfill.

Simply, one of the best horror films ever made, it's in my all time top 10. It's all about unknown horrors and is driven by the lead character Grant Mazzy, who is absolutely marvellous. I have seen it 3 times now and enjoyed it as much if not more upon each viewing.

I have to give kudos to McDonald and Burgess for refreshing the zombie genre in ways I never thought possible.
