Pontypool (2009)

When disc jockey Grant Mazzy reports to his basement radio station in the Canadian town of Pontypool, he thinks it's just another day at work. But when he hears reports of a virus that turns people into zombies, Mazzy barricades himself in the radio booth and tries to figure out a way to warn his listeners about the virus and its unlikely mode of transmission.

An incredible zombie film where a majority of the horror takes place over the phone, implied and direly frightening in its execution. And when the supposed virus finds its way into the radio station the characters are holed up at, that's when things get really weird. It's rife with the spirit of eighties-era John Carpenter at his best and will not disappoint the avid intelligent moviegoer.

Pontypool is, without a doubt, the most horrifying zombie film I have seen since Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Though, to call this a zombie film isn't entirely accurate, but it's easier to just go with it than get bogged down in what a "true" zombie is. Pontypool gets down to what made Night of the Living Dead so terrifying: being stuck, defending your life against things you don't understand.
