I thought this movie was brilliantly cast . Being a big fan of Timothy Spall I was thrilled to see him really shine in this leading role. Albert Pierrepoint wrote an autobiography The Last Executioner that Tim had read at some point in his past and found very intriguing, oddly enough he was cast in portraying the same man years later. Its definitley heavy but the acting is superb and being a person who likes movies and books that are more offbeat and that exercise your brain this movie really appealed to me. I learned something I didnt know about...and that caused me to research more fully into Pierrepoint and the whole history of capital punishment. I think it was brave to make this movie and I watched it at least three times and would watch it again. I even plan on buying the book off of Amazon. Of course Spall is mesmerizing in his character portrayal...this is real history folks...I'm sick of the Holllywood pap...this kind of film is far superior. Plus I love English accents.

Wonderful. Wish it was a longer piece of work since it's only a little over an hour and half. Great though.

An interesting look at the life of Albert Pierrepoint, a British executioner with over 600 notches on his rope. It's all very grim but fascinating with it. Timothy Spall was cast perfectly in this role, that goes a fair way to making this film as good as it is.

There are some amazing performances in here with a very interesting premise that made me see capital punishment in a couple of different ways that I hadn't considered before. Timothy Spall is one of the great actors who rarely get meaty parts like this on screen. Huzzah for him!
