A story about a hangman who is proud of his work and wants to do a good job despite its implications. Amazing film and tension maintained throughout until things expode. I didn't even realize I was that captivated until I started crying like a baby at the end.

A morbid topic done cinematic justice through it's usage of stark realism and it's avoidance of the unneccessarily grotesque. Captivating throughout. British cinema at it's finest.

An interesting look at the life of Albert Pierrepoint, a British executioner with over 600 notches on his rope. It's all very grim but fascinating with it. Timothy Spall was cast perfectly in this role, that goes a fair way to making this film as good as it is.

Fascinating, powerful and stark. Spall was excellent as Albert Pierrepoint, Britain's expert hangman. Highly recommend this. Another British gem.

Well I've just got up from watching this and am pretty impressed. The juxtaposition of such a mild mannered man, taking pride in his work against the cold and calculating professional, dehumanising the condemned... but then only until their penalty has been paid... A powerful movie.
