Upshot: "The 'extremists' are dividing the country and the poor, reasonable President is tormented in the middle. He didn't have anything to do with it. He was just there." You can watch this documentary 10 times and end up with more clearer understanding of why this country seems more divided than it was...say, when Reagan was in office. Oh! You don't remember that? Me neither.

A doc about the increasing political divides. Its chalk full of good ideas like non-partition redistricting for the house, open primaries, public financing for campaigns. It leaves out my favorite, which a popular vote for president. All of which force candidates to appeal to votes outside of their traditional political base.

For anyone interested in a balanced look at our political divide, this is the movie. The director goes to great pains to ensure that whatever biases he brings to his creation are left on the cutting room floor. While the discussion is framed by the current political topics, the division discussed goes much deeper, touching on why politicians choose to prey upon these divisions (fears) to win. Of course, once they win, they are left trying to work in the system that they created. If it comes within two states of you, you owe it to yourself to see it.

Patriocracy is a refreshing film that brings hope to the current extreme political polarization in America. It was pleasantly surprising to find that the film was extremely neutral in position, which caused a much more powerful affect in its message of meeting somewhere in the middle on the issues facing our society. Not only is it a well made film, but it draws your attention to a specific problem, provides examples and expert opinions from credible sources, and ends with a hopeful and empowering solution. Malone provides research and provoking visualizations of how our country has come to be pitted against each other according to party loyalties. We need to be coming together for solutions, and not dividing ourselves further. The loudest voices aren't the most correct and it is apparent in the film that it is vital for us to use our innovation and come together in this time of conflict. It is truly an inspirational film and I would reccomend it to anyone who is interested in bettering our society!

One of the best illustrations of how and why America became so divided politically in spite of a fairly moderate majority. I'm giving the fifth star, however, to the solutions provided towards the end pertaining to already existing agencies working to make our government about the issues and not the money.
