I can't fault this film. A true classic, the presence of Margaret Rutherford lifting it further in my eyes. Of course it's dated, but it's post-war setting captures London at that time incredibly vividly. And the fighting underdog storyline that has you rooting for victory and which must have appealed to a nation still reeling from the effects of WW2, still effects the viewer even today. Simply marvellous.

A wonderful, small political film that explores what would happen if a neighborhood in London discovered it was not actually English soil. This is not a great film, but it is quite enjoyable for fans of British comedy. The townsfolk revel in their newfound independence, enabling them to buy and sell rationed goods at will, allowing the local pub to stay open all hours (and with live music!) and devoiding the sales tax. Things go south though when everyone else in London finds out about this little slice of heaven and wants their piece too.

My favourite Ealing comedy. Margaret Rutherford at her best and shows clearly how Britain suffered economically just after WWII. Stanley Holloway is wonderful as the 'Prime Minister' of Burgundy and I adore Hermione Baddeley as the dress shop owner (a real character).
