Paris 36 (2008)

A star is born in a time of both celebration and instability in this historical drama with music from director Christophe Barratier. In the spring of 1936, Paris is in a state of uncertainty; while the rise of the Third Reich in Germany worries many, a leftist union-oriented candidate, Léon Blum, has been voted into power, and organized labor is feeling its new power by standing up to management.

It dragged on a little but this period piece from 1936 was full of great costumes, good singers and sweet scenarios. This is definitely worth going and checking out when it gets a general release. Very cute.

Paris 36 is a quaint trifle, re-creating an era and its atmosphere with nostalgia and affection.

Barratier juggles his large cast of eccentrics sensationally, each character given the chance to breathe and evolve taking on a life of their own so distinct and one of a kind I was almost in awe.
