Gorgeous looking film set around a North Paris theatre in 1936, where the members of a troupe find new life by putting on a show in the same theatre they used to be employed in before it was closed. It's a typically 'French' film, in that there's an equal amount of misery liberally sprinkled throughout the overall uplifting moments, and well worth a look. I went in expecting a musical, but it's much more than that, just happens to have musical bits here or there. Recommended.

Simply delightful! The relationships are so multi-faceted and uplifting: Pigoil and JoJo (estranged father and son), Pigoil and Milou (resentful friends), Milou and Douce (distanced lovers), Galapiat and Douce (tyrannic benefactor and unwilling protege). Smaller parts like Radio Man and Jacky provide the glue that holds the Chansonia together. Everyone has their falls from grace and their subsequent redemptions. The music is perky fun, and the frame story starts and stops at reasonable places. It's just a nice, happy movie :~)

A magical, marvelous musical that I could watch over and over again. Nora Arnezeder glows like Audrey Hepburn and has a beautiful, unique voice. I loved it, it made me smile and cry and smile because I was crying.

Just when you thought they didn't make films like "Children of Paradise" anymore, "Paris 36" comes along to rejuvenate the genre.
