It is to films such as Nausicaa and Ghost In The Shell what Monster House is to the 80s fims such as The Goonies and The Burbs. The influences to this film clearly stand out. It is a tried and tested style which has been executed really well. An inspiring story with further explored characters and a good introduction film to what could become an interesting world to explore further.

This film carries a few interesting underlying themes, but presents them in the manner of a Saturday morning cartoon. The animation is beautiful, but the storytelling just isn't executed well enough.

I knew from the intro that I was in for a wonderful treat! Surprisingly great, Origin: Spirit of the Past delivers as a stand alone Anime.

Excellent anime. Great story, well animated - it looked fantastic. There is the potential for so many stories here. It almost seemed like there was too much for the 1 1/2 running time. The flash backs helped keep it all together. I recommend this for all Manga and anime fans.
