This was the very first motocross film I saw. This made such a huge impression on me as a kid to be a motocross rider, and I still love going back and watching this movie. I'd give anything to be able to ride with all those guys just once.

It abounds with intelligently applied stop-frame, slow motion and colour treatment knick-knacks which heighten the excitement and visual impact.

Being a motorcycle rider since childhood, I've watched this movie over and over again in my life. I think I first came to like Steve McQueen through this before I really paid attention to how good an actor he was in his movies. It's a bit dated if you want thrills, due to the age of the film and infancy of the off-road motorcycling sport at the time. But for history and nostalgia purposes, this can't be beat. And when it comes to documentary filmmaking, no narrator/director engages an audience like Bruce Brown does.
