The mood is heated. Demonstrations are taking place across France, also in front of the Paris hotel where an Italian named Giorgio is booking the bridal suite for him and his boyfriend Antonio. It's all about disconnection, and there's little humanity in [Neïl] Beloufa's aggressive stylization, so despite enjoyable visual delights, Occidental doesn't quite transcend its metaphorical echo chamber.

What Occidental offers is a collection of perplexing human relationships reducible to types...it's hard not to feel the auteur working the angles throughout the film.
