Wendy, her husband Dan and their kids have just moved to the small town of Stull, Kansas, where Dan is the new pastor. But in this sleepy community of friendly neighbors, a horrific series of occurrences awaits them: Their teenage daughter is being tormented by grisly visions. This movie was like two or three different movie concepts somehow squished together the moments before the end left me feeling like it should have went on and the beginning half shouldn't even have been there or at least didn't need to be and the very end was just ridiculous. No interesting scares but not poor, worth a single sitting.

It's actually a very original story which kept me glued to the screen the entire time. However there was little to no development in characters and the family seemed straight out of a 50's sitcom. I also kept thinking wtf Anne Heche? Who was given star billing but went totally unnoticed as a housewife that anybody could of played. An actress of her ability had nothing to do. The movie was tailored around the oldest daughter, Rebecca played by Rebekah Brandes. Basically this reminded me of the Goosebumps episode "Welcome To Dead House". The end of the second act was creepy. It seemed like a very bad nightmare you want to wake up from, but you also want to see where your subconscious mind takes you. Anthony Leonardi lll is a decent director because there are some cool shots and angles in this. Just not the greatest script in the world. Nothing against Jonathan W.C. Mills who wrote the script. Maybe the material got mishandled in the process.

Anne Heche is completely wasted in this half baked over familiar tale of a town hiding a sinister secret. There's one or two jumps but no sense of jeopardy as the plot collapses when it shows it's hand.

I guess this was suppose to be a horror film--at least, that's the genre it is categorized as--but nothing was scary about this film. The story feels half-done as almost nothing is explained in its plot--and not in a mysterious way that lets the viewer create their own conclusions but in a way that leads me to believe the screenwriter just gave up because "writing is hard." The only saving grace is the fact that Clancy Brown is in it and he does a tremendous job with the little screen time he gets. A young actor by the name of Carter Cabassa also does quite well in the film but isn't allowed to shine until the movie is almost over. The rest of the cast is just painful to endure as they can't act, are completely lifeless or interact with each other in the most unnatural way possible. Slasher Films really came out of the gate limping and lost with this one.

A nice atmospheric horror, in the tradition of Children Of The Corn or Wicker Man with its combination of rural setting and the lengths people will go to in the name of their faith. Its just a shame that the main cast are just so bland that stops this film from raising above other run of the mill horror.
