Incredibly moving film, with an in-depth view on blindness. The use of John Hull's actual cassette tape recordings as the dialogue for the film works wonders. As I actually met John Hull, as he was a member of my Church I can say the main actor did a wonderful job of imitating all his characteristics. Definitely check this film out.

English writer and theologian John Hull, who went blind in the early 1980s and kept an audio diary of his experience, is the subject of this thought-provoking film, which takes an unusual if not always successful approach to the documentary form.

A cinematic and emotional experience like none other. Wouldn't call it a documentary per se, it's more than that. The creators of this exceptional film successfully recreated John Hull's notes on his initial battle and later acceptance and maybe even appriciation of going blind. All of his struggles, ups and downs, even some surprisingly blissful moments he went through, shown in a beautifully artistic way.

Notes on Blindness is more than sufficient to prove that sightlessness, however unwelcome, is a richer experience than we may assume.

This is a very original film about a daunting subject, namely the shock of living with blindness.
