This depressing and moody melodrama marks the directorial and screenwriting debut for playwright Clifford Odets.

I can't understand half the dialogue in this movie. It's not the accent - I understand all the words. It's the Cockney slang and clever wordplay. I'm sorry Mr. Odets, but you need to dumb down your writing for us Americans. That, or add subtitles.

This movie is great. Grant really lets his melancholy side shine. His acting is superb and carries the movie.
