This documentary is difficult to watch, because its heroism and inspirational nature is paired with social tragedy. It is tender and courageous, yet I can't help but feel we were given a glimpse of only a few of the "problem" children or the most sympathetic ones, giving us a rather one-sided view that makes it difficult to fully call the Tom family a success story in the end. Still, it is worth a watch!

This is worth a watch. Sometimes you forget how much someone has to sacrifice to show love to another. This helped me remember that if I am blessed enough to be able to live a "normal" life, then I need to spend it helping those who aren't. 1

Demanding but deeply affecting, My Flesh and Blood ultimately takes on a literal, highly visceral meaning that transcends notions of conventional family dynamics.

Documentary in the year of one mom and 11 special needs children. NOT what you will expect. Susan Toms (the mother) said she did not want a sugary sweet depiction - well it's certainly not. There's more than the children's disabilities going on here - very interesting film. The special features is a needed watch with this one to answer questions not done so in the documentary itself.

You'd have to be a stone not to be affected by My Flesh and Blood, but the director, Jonathan Karsh, merges compassion with voyeurism until you can't tell the difference.
