Multiple Sarcasms (2010)

Gabriel is a man who on the surface has it all-successful professional life as an architect, a beautiful wife, Annie, and a devoted young daughter, Elizabeth. But slowly it dawns on him that he is not really happy. Gabriel decides that he wants to write a play about the sorry state of his life. He quits his job, gets a pushy literary agent friend to represent him and starts writing. Although his marriage ends in a divorce, the play is success and although his life is different than it was, he is happier.

The cast is uniformly appealing in out-of-left-field ways, but writer-director Brooks Branch lets the story amble lazily, which -- like Gabriel and almost every character like him you've ever seen -- gets a little tiring.

Avi Offer 06 May 2010

An often uneven, inorganic drama centered around a dull, tediously narcissistic character who's as irritating as nails on a chalkboard.

Doris Toumarkine 09 May 2010

So-so, light tale of a successful New York architect who endangers his comfortable, conventional life to navel-gaze and write a play provides some moments for the always watchable Timothy Hutton. But there's not much else to watch.

Channing doesn't bring any new tricks to the table but with her character's tenacious and spirited nature she's fun to have around for a few brief scenes.

It was really smart and well written film about its moral dilemma and the way to confront it comes with a price to pay and has its own moments of clarity. This film is probably lacks its proper pace and the editing process needs to be fix because some of it in this film can be confusing as hell! At times, there are moments when I felt like to fast forward some unnecessary parts that do not fit for the plot points. The acting is great and at it's raw performance at the best to help this movie to fall through. But the rest just felt flat. There are some really funny moments but it is not enough to grasp my attention.
