Mr. Cinema (2007)

Zhou Heung Kong (Anthony Wong) runs the film projector in a Hong Kong cinema and staunchly embraces a left-wing viewpoint. Wow, this film pretty much hit everything I hate about Hong Kong cinema when it's at it's worst. Melodramatic and all over the place, there wasn't one character that I could give a rat's ass about. However, I did notice a few Chinese (I believe they were, of course I don't know for sure) people in the audience who loved it and a few women were crying. So this could be the case of different cultures, where cinema tactics that would make the Westerner roll his/her eyes touches a nerve in the East. Anyway, whether I'm cynical or not, my first instinct would be to warn anyone to stay far, far away from this one. Oh yeah, and also it was commissioned by the Chinese government for the 10 year anniversary of the handover, so it's really, really pro China.

Seemingly intends to create a HK version of 'Paradise in Cinema'. Very nostalgic. Kinda confused at the beginning but touching at the end.

Wasn't really expecting such a touching story but it was very well done. The movie wasn't trying to place too much focus on the 10th anniversary for handover thing and the story line was very smooth.

Well. If all "left" like Anthony Wong, I don't mind to vote for DAB. Quite a good movie to bring back lots of good-old-day memory.

A story of a families and the Hong Kong history from 1949 till now. The story is touching especially for those came from the Mainland in 1950s.
