Although not all musicians who performed at the Monterey Pop Festival are on film, some of the notable acts include the Mamas and the Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, the Who, Otis Redding, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Musically phenomenal, a little dated and hippy-drippy at this point, but still worth it for the Otis Redding footage alone. The audience reaction shots during Ravi Shankar show that you don't have to show much (if any) of the artist performing to capture their music, as well.

I found this an extremely powerful experience. I had recently been involved in the making of a documentary as a director and was disappointed a s a whole, the compromises and the vision was constantly getting screwed, but watching this, I feel amazed and wanting as I saw how beautiful the moments were that had been caught. I believe Hendrix is the Devil in flesh and Shankar is God in a kurta.

Very good performances from The Who, Hendrix, Mamas & The Papas, but Otis Redding steals the show. A very different film than Woodstock.
