this is a remake of red dust( this time called mogambo) both starring clark gable and although him and ava gardner are good together it just isnt the same as the chemistry between gable and harlow in the 1932 original.

The only real light of this movie is seeing two of the most beautiful women ever in Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly. John Ford directs the movie terribly, Clark Gable weight and age make him nothing like a irresistible adventurer as he portrays. Plus this movie is more like a discovery in film making based on using trained safari animals for one of the first times.

Bizarre film. Weird plot. Quite jumbled. Grace Kelly is a bit frantic with her acting. The scenery is quite nice. Not a great film.

The special effects are so distracting and terrible that this film loses many points in my book. Many of Ford's movies unfortunately feel this way these days. And I'm simply not much of a Gable fan. A Gardner fan! A GRACE KELLY FAN!!! But don't think much of Gable sweeping either of these mega-starlots off their feet. Hoped for much more and perhaps that was the problem. So especially after seeing something like "Out of Africa," this is disappointing.
