Suggestive yet always genteel, 'Miranda' is as beguiling as its title character...

As a child I loved seeing this cute British comedy about the lovely mermaid who charmed all of the men with whom she came into contact . Later, Glynis Johns and David Tomlinson would star in another charming movie--Disney's Mary Poppins. Both were favorites!

In April of 1948 the Brits released a fantasy about a doctor catching a mermaid while on a fishing vacation in Cornwall. The fantasy though is the least part of the work, which was cobbled together seemingly just to get to the laughs. Nonetheless, due to the warm performances of the cast, as well as those cutesy little bits of humor, the piece is favorable overall, and one does not feel as if one's time was totally wasted.
