Jesus and Cadillac in one sentence which comes out from the mouth one of the preachers summarizes the essence of their work. Let's talk about Jesus so that I can earn my new car. A very important documentary indeed how intelligent people like Marjoe can play on people beliefs and convince them that thay have been "revealed and liberated". Marjoe without any evil intention, before his "shows" explains the tricks of the trade of evangelist preaching, and them delivers them in a shown. This is an amazing stuff to see how people are easily fooled and tricked to get their 10-20 dollar bill out. Everybody should watch this to question their logical mind.

I can understand the impact this film made at the time and why it deserves its Oscar. This film literally change the face of Christian America. However it loses a couple of points because I can only enjoy so many hours so constant, crazy preaching, speaking "in tongues" and flailing on the floor.

A grown up child faith-healer reveals the schemes and deceptions of his trade. Inside the brain of a con artist, this documentary is everything that's good about Elmer Gentry with the added benefit of being all true. Marjoe is an unappealing person, but the film is starkly honest and unflinching in its condemnation. The thesis isn't as intelligent about faith as it might be (because after all faith is far more complex than can be shown in a film or garnered in a tent rally), but this is still a valuable and compelling film. Overall, Marjoe is a fascinating look at the business of conversion.
