Man of the West (1958)

Heading east to Fort Worth to hire a schoolteacher for his frontier town home, Link Jones is stranded with singer Billie Ellis and gambler Sam Beasley when their train is held up. For shelter, Jones leads them to his nearby former home, where he was brought up an outlaw. Finding the gang still living in the shack, Jones pretends to be ready to return to a life crime.

Reafirmo por que sufri tanto las casi 3 horas de tedio de la dichosa El Asesinato de Jesse James... Esta pelicula deberia estar facil en el top 10 de la historia del genero del oeste. Un relato de rendencion envuelto en un halito malsano y asfixiante, con un innegable tono crepuscular. Ritmo tenso y violencia en los momentos precisos. Actuaciones excelentes, con un inquietante Lee J. Cobb y las ultimas estocadas de Gary Cooper, en una de sus mejores interpretaciones. Mas encima esta dirigida por Anthony Mann, hombre clave en la evolucion del western durante los cincuenta. Prodigiosa.

Mann's last Western doesn't the credit of his pictures with James Stewart but I think it's every bit as great.

Would have been nice to see James Stewart return for this western, but apparently he had fallen out with the director. Still, I love Cooper, and this is a decent movie.
