I love this version more than the original! Lucille Ball is hilarious in this! Quite tongue in cheek! We Need A Little Christmas! Best Christmas song for me!

I admit that Lucille Ball was mis-cast in this role but she never was a singer. On the other hand, I think that she did wonderful job in the plantation/fox hunt scenes. Of course, the fox hunt really called for the kind of comedy that Lucy did best, so no wonder it sticks in my mind. I agree that Bea Arthur was a wonderful Vera.

Mame is painful to watch. The jokes that are supposed to be clever and biting come off as being mean when delivered by Lucille Ball.

This is such an underrated film! I adore the Rosalind Russell version of course but this version holds up quite well in my opinion. Lucille Ball had just the right amount of edginess to play Mame well and Bea Arthur is magnificent!
