Prior to filming his first movie, Lamberto Bava worked with his ill father Mario and learned the craft of making the most moody, stylish, and perverse horror movies that is why it's a shame Lamberto Bava's debut isn't something stronger. 'Macabre' moves at a slow pace, touches on themes of sexual lust for the deceased while maintaining a dreadful mood. However, when young Bava switches to the horror his father was the master of he falls from planet Earth. One second you have a straight face, the next you're questioning motives, then finally you give up and accept how utterly ludicrous the picture becomes when young Bava should be making his dead father proud and scaring the audience - terror doesn't appear to be a word one can associate with the name Lamberto Bava. Still, 'Macabre' has a Hitchockian feel to it and is a solid debut that could've been better had it had more heart and conviction from Mr. Bava thrown into it.

SPOILER ALERT!!! not that you will really care since you will not watch this one ever! SPOILER ALERT!!! Slow moving and somewhat predictable shocker. At first I thought she was just having ghost orgasms with her dead lover. Then I realized the stupid truth when the decapitation was driven home (AAAAAH). Stanko Molnar really tries hard to make blindness compelling by fumbling around ineffectually and staring into the camera at weird angles. The last ten or fifteen minutes of this thing is simply too good to be true. Really. Fantastic stuff.

Mysterious and horrifying atmosphere and intense sequences of terror and shocking in its ending--A kinky and disturbing offering that definitely lives up to its name!!

Thoroughly Modern Millie was batshit insane. George Roy Hill was obviously under some influence when he made this. Black Sabbath was one of the better Mario Bava movies I've seen. Demons 2 was awful. How could you follow the ass-kicking gore-fest with ninjas on motorcyle original with this lame sequel? Meh. In the vein of the Bavas, I've also seen Lamberto's Macabre, one of his first movies. It's about a psycho bitch who keeps the frozen head of her dead lover in her fridge and she has sex with it. Throw in some Freudian competition between the psycho bitch and her (arguably) even more psycho bitch daughter, and you've got a movie. It's boring as fuck though. I was surprised by the quality of the acting in The Fly. The chemistry between Geena Davis and the always great Jeff Goldblum makes this film work every bit as much as the gore.

Demented-even by today?s standards. I just watched an old, Italian horror movie from 1980 called ?Macarbe? and I got to say that it was far better than I expected. In fact, most of today?s horror movies can?t even compare to it. This movie has child murder (rarely seen in today?s politically correct society) and this may be one of the earliest movies depicting necrophilia. There weren?t any special effects ? it actually came down to a good script and good directing. If you haven?t seen it already (I feel shame for not having seen this earlier), check it out
