Not unlike Ali MacGraw in the equally apocryphal Love Story, the closer our heroine inches toward death's door, the more physically attractive she becomes. Phooey!

Cruz is radiant in her role, finding inner strength even when the script pushes Magda towards blind hope, and finding pain even when Medem insists that cancer hits with all the force of a bad night's sleep.

Very dramatic. Overly dramatic dramas that compound each other in a too nicely imbricated story. Very well put together though. Well acted. It's more a state of mind of a film than a story telling film. Toward the end though, it looked progressively more and more homer-sexual.
