Lucha Mexico is a very colorful film with many stunning visuals of Mexico's wonderful landscape and culture, unfortunately the film has very little substance. Aside from one or two wrestlers, majority of the wrestlers don't get very much screen time and don't have much story, the filmmakers go from wrestler to wrestler who give a brief commentary and then are never seen on screen again. Not a bad film, I just wished I had leaned more about the luchadors and they're lives outside the ring

There’s just enough history about lucha libre to make you curious to learn more.

What Hammond and Markiewicz are most gifted at is cinematography. I’d gladly watch this film’s entire B-roll again just to bask in the gorgeous Mexican landscapes and vivid snapshots of the cities, outdoor markets and parking lots where various matches occur.

A seedy trip through Mexico's most-hallowed halls of professional wrestling, focusing on second-generation luchador Shocker, Blue Demon, Jr., the tragic Hijo Del Perro Aguayo and lovable CMLL mascot Kemonito. More a magical, masked mystery tour than revealing doc, still, fans of Lucha Libre should enjoy the trip. Features clips with two grapplers who died tragically before the completition of filming. ***/5*

Lucha Mexico competently captures the nostalgic spectacle of this Mexican sport with vibrant glee. It may be a rambling journey, but it offers up an infectious energy and a behind-the-ropes look at its legendary heroes.
