An academy award-winning foreign film at it's finest! The gritty realism of the shaky relationship that led to grand finale of the world's greatest rock band. A film great for it's historical significance as well as it's artistic contributions.

I had always long thought of this as being just the "roof top performance" so I was a little surprised to learn it was far more than that. What is essentially a window into the dying days of the Beatles, I was surprised to see how, by this stage, it was almost exclusively a Paul-machine. Also surprised was I to see that, whilst Paul is running the show (perhaps not always painted in the best light), it also seems like there is relative harmony and enjoyment going on between at least John and Paul. Ringo is kind of inconsequential. Its really only George who comes off being the only one not really interested in the general proceedings. The lead up to the roof top performance provides many an interesting insight, but once you get to the rooftop its maybe one of the most enduring images of the Beatles there is. Rock royalty.

What was supposed to be the blueprint of making an album became the blueprint of a band breaking up. The Beatles were all but finished during the making of this film, which can be painful to watch for those who loved the mop-top Beatles. The arrival of Yoko Ono casts a dark cloud on the proceedings, and John Lennon's wicked humor has became dry and cruel at this point.
