Robert Bresson takes on Tolstoy and there's nothing else like it, in my view. Some people might find it a bit slow, but they're idiots.

A pretty far-fetched tale concerning the evil of money and humankind's relationship with it. I feel Bresson was close to perfecting his style in "l'Argent" as the framing is a thing of absolute beauty. I just don't know if, as a whole, it works as well as his earlier masterpieces.

Bresson -- who was eighty-two years old when the film came out, and clearly in no mood for mellowing -- frames the acts of wickedness, both great and small, with a terrifying calm.

Unwatchable. Pretentious. Using non-actors is generally praised in reviews, almost unthinkingly it seems. Couldn't recommend this less.
