This was the first Bresson film that I saw. It's a later one, so maybe not the best introduction but I really loved it. He has a pace all his own and the end is absolutely chilling.

Surprisingly effective film by one of my least favorite auteurs. Bresson's selfish auteurism and the wooden acting of the models is as distracting as always, but the film as a whole rises above such limitations because of its expansiveness. The final result: a scathing portrayal of the corrupting and destructive power of money that is quite possibly Bresson's best work.

Not my favourite Bresson, but it sure is an interesting piece of work.

I found the film very jarring in its mixing of naturalistic acting and setting with composed and stiff cinematography and editing. Add this to a flawed script, mainly in its choice of having actors say lines aloud on their own, made the film feel far too contrived.
