Land of Storms (2014)

Szabolcs plays in a German football team, as does Bernard. They are roommates, best friends, inseparable. A lost match makes him reconsider his life and he goes back to Hungary in hope for more simplicity. Yet his solitude does not last long. Soon after his arrival he meets Áron and a mutual attraction between the two boys develops when suddenly Szabolcs receives an unexpected phone call from Bernard: he has arrived to Hungary...

Best friends Szabolcs and Bernard are playing in the same German football team. After a lost game, Szabolcs decides to go home to Hungary where he meets another boy, Áron with whom they become lovers but soon Bernard comes after his friend. A great story that did not come across in the script. A great chemistry falls foul to a nonsense storyline. A shame of the potential of the cat and the idea. Lands a bit meh. Alas.

This is the quietest gay film I ever. Lots of long scenes of characters doing everyday mundane things amid a quasi love story. Not great but it held my interest

Viharsarok (Land of Storms) at first reminded me of Jongens (Boys), following two discrete gay men through the bleak, raw, European setting. But, as the film played on, I was shocked at what was in store. As an aspiring director, and avid film watcher, I feel as if most good movies have been seen or made. This movie was so beautiful, so authentically raw and unadulterated, that I had to pause at certain moments because I could not take the real human aspect being filmed. Humbly, I've been captivated and pulled into this beautifully made movie, and not for one second did I take my eyes off of the screen. European movies will always be better because of films like this. Thank you Ádám Császi.
