Abortion. The word itself elicits a range of different emotions in people. Tony Kaye's documentary on the topic is a brilliant one. It is 100% unbiased, it presents all the information, shares all the opinions, introduces us to everybody on both sides of the issue, and even shows us the process from beginning to end. And it's shattering. An absolutely monumental and important film, Lake of Fire is essential viewing for those who can stomach it. Thank you, Tony Kaye, for your 15-year commitment to the making of this film. Verdict: CERTIFIED FRESH -Luke

Doesn't aim to win converts or preach to the converted. His goal is rather to clear through the rhetoric, and look at abortion and its place in the American political dialog.

Gripping, shocking, informative and quite simply a great documentary. It tries it's best to show both sides and be unbiased, for the most part it does and is. There was never a part I felt was too heavy handed. Seeing the extremes on both sides sheds some light on how big the issue is for people. Also the personal stories drive home the individual impact.

Lake of Fire tackles the issue of abortion with fearless and graphic candor. It throws some conservative punches by interviewing women who are about to undergo or who have just undergone an abortion. The conflict over what they are about to do, or what they have just done, is palpable. Not content to leave the topic in the subjective realm of language, however, the movie also shows the procedure. The ensuing visual images are like a challenge - "this is what you support." The film then throws some liberal punches by interviewing the religious extremists who kill doctors and firebomb abortion clinics. It exposes their rigid and exclusionary belief systems and shows equally disturbing images of murdered clinic employees - "this is what you support." Intellectuals from both sides of the argument are interviewed, and although it would be disingenuous of me to deny that the film leans to the left, I still think its attempt at objectivity results in one of the best and most thought-provoking documentaries I have seen in years.
