I have reviewed this film yet, I mean the story is the same of Capra s - pocketful of miracles -, Even if this is funnier. May be because I do not know the actors, may be because the girlfriend of Dave the Dude is cuter than the girl the same role in the remake. Frank Capra s movies are just a reworking of the fairy tale - Cinderella -. Personally I dont think one needs to say all this lies. One cannot tell so many lies without feeling himself a bad person. So I think the beggar Annie, ought to say her daughter the truth - I am a beggar not a noble woman -. In that case nobody would have shot a movie.

The probability that a group of beggars and mobsters would go to any length of trouble to help out an alcoholic apple vender who told her daughter that she was a society dame? Very low. But save for a few syrupy sweet speeches rallying around Apple Annie (I think someone actually says "We've got to do this for Apple Annie!" at one point), this movie actually...kind of...works. Maybe because it's got that Frank Capra sincerity, maybe because it's got a good cast (Guy Kibbee and May Robson are cute together). It's far from being the greatest Capra film out there, but it's watchable, maybe even entertaining.

I loved this movie. It was beautiful to see how touched she was when everyone pulled together to help her.

There are some gaps in the plot but nevertheless worth a good laugh.

Damon Runyon's short story was the perfect vehicle for Frank Capra's intended assault on the Oscars of 1933, only Oscar didn't bite. No matter, the popular street personalities he created live on for us, thanks to Capra's affection for tough characters with soft hearts, his approximation of the American zeitgeist (which may or may not be true ... but we sure wished that it was). Special mention must be given to Ned Sparks who steals every scene he's in.
