Lady for a Day (1933)

Apple Annie is an aging New York City fruit seller whose daughter Louise has been raised in a Spanish convent since she was an infant. As she grows up, Louise is led to believe that her mother is a society matron called Mrs. E. Worthington Manville. Annie worries that her lie is in danger of being uncovered when she learns that Louise is sailing to New York with her new fiancé and his nobleman father.

Cute, funny in some instances. May Robinson was very good as Apple Annie, and Dave the Dude was a gangster with a heart of gold.

I saw this film about 10 years ago and found it compelling and moving, It has everything ,A criminal who always buys apples from a street seller, takes pity on her ,when one day he finds her her distressed and so a story unfolds, This is a great story and will sadden the hardest of hearts, Dont miss it

I have reviewed this film yet, I mean the story is the same of Capra s - pocketful of miracles -, Even if this is funnier. May be because I do not know the actors, may be because the girlfriend of Dave the Dude is cuter than the girl the same role in the remake. Frank Capra s movies are just a reworking of the fairy tale - Cinderella -. Personally I donÃ¢Â?Â?t think one needs to say all this lies. One cannot tell so many lies without feeling himself a bad person. So I think the beggar Annie, ought to say her daughter the truth - I am a beggar not a noble woman -. In that case nobody would have shot a movie.

A great early Capra film with a wonderful set up involving a poor woman who lies to her daughter who lives overseas and has never seen her that she's a rich woman. When the daughter decides to get married and come to visit, "Apple Annie" gets the help of the mobster she bring luck to to turn her into a rich lady for a week. There are some pretty hilarious moments throughout, all involving the mobsters and their reactions to helping out with the crazy idea. Great cast and some perfect writing, especially all of the wonderful names of characters. A great Capra film to see, I loved it, and the ending is so great.
