Ktown Cowboys (2015)

Based on the wildly successful web-series of the same name, Ktown Cowboys is a bro-mantic dramedy that follows a group of ball-busting, hard-partying friends wrestling with their evolution into adulthood. Came across this movie purely by randomness thanks to a FB suggestion of a live feed the guys were having. Not knowing any of the background of the webseries that led to the movie I watched this movie going in with zero expectations. I must say I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the movie, enough that I watched it twice within 24 hours of the rental. Overall the jokes were funny, the Korean cultural explanations mixed in were pretty cool, and the eye candy (Daniel Dae Kim *sigh* And Peter shirtless yum!) made for a pretty good movie. The movie definitely gives the vibe of getting a peek into the male brotherhood and the dynamics of their friendship which I enjoyed. A few of the serious scenes still felt like they were missing something that didn't quite drum up the feelings they should have and some of the characters felt a little underdeveloped(maybe that was in the webseries) but those things weren't enough to take away from the movie's greatness. I'm glad to see a movie like this out there and hope there's a lot more to come and more mainstream.

Park coats the big heart he has for these people with warm LA lens flares, and finds energy from sharp cuts and wall-to-wall music. It’s the performances that prove to be spotty, with flat line-readings all around and displays of emotions that struggle to reach from the script to the audience.

Ahead of its time and a more realistic portrayal of Adult Asian American Men. .. because at the end of the day, they're just dudes... It doesn't have to be Asian American dudes... just dudes. No need to talk about their color. Some of the jokes can range from really smart to down right raunchy. If you're a fan of Louis C.K., you'll feel that vibe of always getting the butt end of the stick permeate throughout the film. In real life, not everybody is a hero... not everybody resolves their issues... and a lot of people keep failing. This film depicts that through humor and ridiculous situations, but in the end, you're still rootin for em. Definitely a refreshing and unique film.

I get a thrill learning about different nationalities, traditions & lifestyles. That's one of the best things I walked away with while also feeling familiar when it came to struggle, loyalty & friendships in KTOWN Cowboys. Loved this movie!
