Kingpin (1996)

After bowler Roy Munson swindles the wrong crowd and is left with a hook for a hand, he settles into impoverished obscurity. That is, until he uncovers the next big thing: an Amish kid named Ishmael. Don't take this too seriously. Very left of centre humour. I loved it.

You know what? I don't care about what the whole universe may say negatively about this movie. This is one of my favorite 'underdog' films of all time. The fact that this film is also funny is actually BESIDE the point for me. This movie is an inspiration to anyone who wakes up one day and finds themselves ten years past their 'prime', not where they planned to be ten years prior, and totally 'Munsoned'~ but still choose to refuse to give up on life. Of all the critics Ebert was the only one who really got it right this time.

Kingpin has nastiness going for it. There are prosthesis jokes, bad-teeth jokes, ugly-women jokes, sight gags involving vomiting, etc.

43/100 from critics? WOW! I wouldn't want to know anybody who doesn't think this film is funny. It's the greatest comedy of all time. The Farrelly's were on fire in the mid to late 90s and this was their best.

Kingpin is no classic, but I've got to admit that after sitting though a number of the film's less-than-inspiring previews over the last few weeks, I wasn't exactly expecting the second coming of Laurel and Hardy.
