King Kelly (2012)

Kelly strips — her best friend Jordan captures the event on her mobile phone. Kelly's name is well known among the visitors of (in)appropriate online portals. The two teenagers digitally record anything and everything that crosses their paths and upload the results to the internet. But today is not their day: Kelly's ex has taken her car containing a package she was not to lose under any circumstances. While searching for it, the two set off on a peculiar journey through a night peppered with drugs, sex, corrupt police officers and other catastrophes – and always with their trusty mobiles in hand.

Groundbreaking and thought provoking. Unlike anything else I've seen. It works on many levels in unexpected ways. Plus, very entertaining and funny in a sardonic way. Great performances by Krause and Woodbridge.

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a webcam girl is like? Me neither, but I'm glad I was able to find out (sort of). Innovative filmmaking and excellent performances by Louisa Krause, and Rod Hill. If your in the mood for an indie film that thinks outside the box, this one is for you.

It's an unflinching update to media scholar Neil Postman's prophetic claim about the deadly impact of television on cultural identity: Smartphones in hand, we face the danger of filming ourselves to death.

Ugh. I don't care how satirical this is; it's just not fun to watch.

King Kelly is a broad indictment of the emptier side of self-documentation and a more nuanced one of the Internet as a source of affirmation.
